FALL IN STYLE

The cool breezes of September through the end of November offer good opportunities to layer up without reaching for the heavy artillery just yet. Nature is full of vibrant colors, use them as inspiration while you can still show them off. Once we hit 30 degrees and below, the game changes.

Go easy with the layers, a button-down shirt, a wool mock-neck sweater and a vest will do.

Just enough protection if the temperature dips later in the night but cool enough to keep you light on your feet

I heard a story on the radio the other morning, I could not find out which book or article they were speaking of but I heard this part for sure: "Either 70 or 75% of black women are currently single and have difficulties finding a suitable black companion, therefore they should look to date or marry men of other races"

So you expect me to believe that 75% of black woman claim they cannot find a black man that will marry them...? And you conclude that the solution is to date outside of their race.
First of all, where did that percentage come from? 18 of 24 ghetto ass bitches!? Or 750,000 of 1 million negro women from all over the world? Secondly, why is the solution to forsake your race? Is there no salvaging the situation? Is it because white is right? WTF is it?

If this is not brainwashing at its best than I have been brainwashed. You assholes repeat that the majority of negros are incarcerated, uneducated, good for nothing drug dealers and thugs who all want to be rappers and ball players. They just go around collecting baby mamas. Well those stereotypes, as with any others, are indeed based on empirical data, however what happened to the army of black families that are thriving, young and proud of who they are. Those who want their children to look like them (and not be mistaken for a nanny when pushing a stroller). If we were so fucking smart we would realize that the dead end job we're busting our asses in will never pay off and leave for other opportunities! NO, we never will! But as soon as we are told to purge all the negro out of our souls, get rid of that infectious disease that is being black, we can't do so quickly enough!

Well from the bottom of my heart to all you beautiful, intelligent black women, latin, indian, asian or caucasian women that can respect a man I will always love you.

Gentleman's Ascension

My mind oftern wonders about what defines proper interaction between men and women in social contexts. In other words, what is expected from a guy when dealing with the ladies.
You know my view about rules, if it's not math or some other absolute subject, keep them to yourself. That being said there are still certain things one can do to be universally seen as a dick! And I guess its because more and more guys neglect to adapt a few basic ideas, that people say "chivalry is dead". Or maybe it's because there are no more knights.

A man will be a man, egocentric and sexually motivated but a man should learn how to be a gallant man, elevated from the brute stage.

Where I come from we follow different guidelines and I see myself slowly adopting American customs. This is my attempt at outlining social etiquette as it relates to b*%@es (just kidding). To that point, if you're a woman and think this is sexist, you are the reason the new generation of women will pee standing up and OD on testosterone injections. It's your choice not to shave, but keep that forest in your armpit away. Thank you.

A man does not shake a woman's hand. The proper way to greet a lady is with a cheek press. I say cheek press not to get it confused with a kiss. No woman you meet for the first time wants your nasty lip juice all over her face.
In the US this is very common. Woman always offer handshakes, I reluctantly oblige but it just feels really weird to me. I can sense the discomfort when I approach for my usual greeting so I just go with the flow.
Of course you will shake hands in a corporate setting but that's a different beast.

Open the damn door and let her go first! The people inside wherever you're going would rather see her walk in first anyway.
There are 2 approaches, first, you can walk ahead, pull the door and let her in or you can actually go in and hold the door as she makes her entrance.
These days I notice women following that whole independent chick philosophy or who are simply not used to gallant company, rush to be first. Well, you know what? I hope you break all your nails or trip on a step.

Whistling. Seriously?! Unless you know for sure, she used to be a dog and reincarnated as a smoking hotty you do not whistle. Psssssst, lookey here...lemme holla at chu for a minute.

A man appreciates a woman's sensuality. Learn how to master your peripheral vision and the ability to peep without being caught. You want her to notice you looking but not undressing her with your eyes. A gallant man's stare builds confidence not insecurity or attitude. Guys are so used to strippers and video vixen wannabes that we're losing our ability to look and treat a woman with respect. We're all sexual beings but watch the line between that and creepy sleaze ball, or public masturbator.

If you are on date and you're picking your lady up. Get out of the car and open the door. Today we just text, honk or call. "Yo I'm outside, hurry up." Then we wait. How do you expect to "get any" if you do not act right? The worst, is that women have such low standards that none of this really matters. And we all know she's is going to take 47 minutes after you get there to get ready.

Greetings my peeps!
Sorry I haven't posting anything new, I'm working on getting a new camera and my bro and I have some material we are working on to share with everyone. SOON COME!

Sartorially speaking, not much has happened lately. I have been observing and absorbing the world. It amazes me that even with all this access to information how miseducated certain people are about how to dress themselves. This is not about fashion nor style but basic common sense and self pride. You don't have to be a "fashionista" or a designer to be concerned about your presentation, you simply have to care!

Hopefully through this blog and the willingness to learn, I can make an impact on your reality. Since the perception you create will manifest itself into reality.

In the meantime, allow me to share some pics from a recent trip to Philly, PA. My posse and I took a drive to the city of brotherly LOVE and discovered some really nice art.
They have these crazy murals all over, these are some of my favorite shots.

Oh no he didn't!

The first installment was what to do and there are more to come, the following is what I would urge anyone not to do. Once again, there are no rules so you can completely disregard whatever I say, but at your own risk. After all rule #2 is "Do you".

BLACK DOES NOT GO WITH EVERYTHING.

Whoever said that is crazy just like the person who said can't have your cake and eat it too.

Black and white are the mother of neutrals but that does not mean you have to match them to every item you wear.

Khaki pants and black shoes - NO NO, never wear those khakis of yours with your shiny black communion lace ups. Invest in nice pair of tan or chocolate shoes and make sure to wear a complementing belt.

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS MATCH YOUR COLORS/PATTERNS.

Yes! If you want to look like a fool or like a fridge

Colors and patterns should complement and contrast each other. It's not a uniform but an expression of your creativity.

If you're not good at picking colors, ask one of your buddies who's a bit more artistic than you for an opinion. Rule of thumb, pair dark bottoms with lighter tops and vice-versa, pair patterned shirts with solid slacks. Once you get into mixing patterns, go for subtle/bold. Guys think wearing a striped tie with a striped shirt is stylish. That is not always a good look if both are the same. That lady you're trying to impress will get cross-eyed looking at you

BIG AND LOOSE MEANS COMFORTABLE.

The average guy calls his well dressed friend metro-sexual cause he wears fitted clothes. "Don't you wanna be comfortable homie?" "I can't walk around with tight shit like that!"

Believe me I am far from the skinny jeans type guy ("my knots won't fit") but I prefer something with fitted, slim or tailored on the label. If you're a big guy don't be afraid of fitted, the bigger the item the bigger it makes you look. Try a size down for your shirts and opt for a more fitting pair of jeans or trousers and you'll see the difference immediately. You'll actually look like you know what you're doing and put some thought into your appearance even if you didn't.

RULES MEE-RAAASS!!!!

There are no style or fashion rules! To me a rule is something absolute, it's something you must do if you want to get results. There is no such thing in style, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want and nothing is going to happen. The world will not go out of orbit nor will your legs catch on fire if you decide to wear gym shorts, brown wingtips and tube socks, it wouldn't look right in MY eyes, but that's me.
However there are guidelines to follow. Your knowledge of these guidelines determine whether you are debonair or just plain silly. Sartorial genius or sartorially challenged.

Today I will share some guidelines with you, that should help out in every situation. Let's Goooo!
(these are not listed in any particular order, the first item is not necessarily the most important and the last not the least). I will post more guidelines as we go so come back for more.

SHOES AND BELT COMBINATION.
Your mama should have told you this! Make sure the belt you are wearing complements the shoes on your feet. In other words black shoes, black belt, brown shoes, brown belt.
Now this goes to the point of not having rules, you don't have to wear the exact same shade (except for black or course, ain't no light or dark black) but the tints should be close.
With sneakers you have more flexibility and more room to be creative. So be free and experiment.

BUTTONS ON A SUIT.
There are different type of suits on the market, the most popular being the 3-button and 2-button notch lapel.
The key here is to only button 1 and never the bottom. On a 2-button, fasten the top and leave the bottom undone, on a 3-button, you have the option to just do the middle button and leave the top button undone or do the first 2 only, the former is my personal M.O.
There are also 1 button jackets out there, needless to say you only have 1 option, DUH!!!

The more expensive jackets have what are known as "working buttons" or "functional sleeves". That's when you can actually undo the buttons on the sleeves of the jacket. In those cases, undo the first one and roll it up a little to show off a bit.

TIES AND POCKET SQUARES.
Your tie and pochette aka pocket square should never ever match, they should complement each other.
Anyone wearing a matching set looks like they are lazy or cheap. Remember, perception is reality. Create your image, manage your swag.
To keep things simple do this:
Solid tie --> Patterned pocket square
Patterned tie --> Solid pocket square
Make one element the primary and play off one of the colors for the other.
The safest bet is the white pocket square, with that you can never go wrong.

Don't be fooled by labels and MSRP. WAIT FOR SALES OR SHOP AROUND.

The key word there is "suggested". Guess what? I suggest you never pay full price for anything. At Versastyle, we only pay full price for certain items, those you know you can rarely find otherwise and mostly accessories.

When it comes to things like shirts, jackets, shoes (some exceptions), pants or anything else, we hunt!

Being stylish or having swagger is not not about who you're wearing, but about your attitude and how you wear it. Be comfortable because you know you look good not because you paid an arm and leg!

With the money I saved I could have bought that picture next to me, that's what I was thinking about...but I didn't.

Women wear weaves (tongue twister I know), fake eyelashes, nails, boobs and now it seems even fake asses. Damn! can a brother get a break! What happened to "you are beautiful just the way you are".

We tend to OD on creating illusions to gain other people's acceptance. We wear knockoff designer clothes and jewelry. It's refreshing to see that some women out there understand that perception is reality.

If you are confident, true to yourself, it will show in your expression and you will command the respect you deserve.

To be sexy doesn't mean baring it all nor does it mean squeezing into stuff that doesn't fit. Fit is the most important factor in style, get that under control and your creativity does the rest

The first time I saw this I was simply amazed! The creativity and the idea related to me personally. You don't need a brush, pencil or colors to be an artist, just your imagination and a point of view.

The simple color scheme allows your brain to absorb it as it sees fit. The superimposed text, to me represents the artist screaming from within expressing his stance but letting you make your own choice.

Now the issue with that is that most of us try too hard to project a made up version of ourselves.

Your style is not only about the clothes and the fabrics you wear but it's about FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.

You are free to do and say whatever you please, wherever and whenever you see fit. There are obviously norms that you may decide to follow or not but it doesn't make you wrong if you choose the latter.

This is one of my favorite T-shirts. The statement it makes is pretty powerful and quite controversial.

I don't know if truth and faith are mutually exclusive, some will argue they are one and the same. And who can convince you that your faith isn't true! However, I believe and promote objectivity, alternative opinions and criticism. If no one ever observes or questions what you're doing, how will you ever learn and improve.

Believe all you want, but don't dismiss the proof even if it goes against your faith.

ONLY WEAR WHAT YOU LIKE!

Not what the fashion mags say is cool or trendy. Any person with seasoned style will see right through you. Remember perception is reality so if you're a copy cat it will show.
As you master the basics, you will eventually understand how to make those trends yours and seamless.

I've seen these guys on several sites and their style is impeccable. You can tell they are not trying to be but actually are the coolest brothers on the block.

I love women! All nationalities, races, heights. My only "type" is independent.
By that I mean a woman who knows who she is, has respect for herself and is able to stand up for whatever she believes in.
Recently I took it upon myself to highlight certain behaviors of the women of our days. To expose the lack of what is known as decorum. I was quite expressive and tried to be as honest and unbiased as I could in order to paint a picture of how some woman have no clue what there worth is. However, due to my lineage I cannot help but to have a predilection towards woman of my own race.
Today I discovered this woman named Saarjite Baartman who was from South Africa. Please allow me to share her story. If my rants did not motivate than maybe this can shed some light as to where you came from and maybe you can see where you are now and reach your own conclusion.

Cardinal Rule - Rule # 1 - Break this and die!

TAKE TIME TO LEARN YOUR TRUE SIZE

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". My take on that is that you're a bit@# a$$ if you can't think for yourself. Don't get me wrong, there are definite rules, norms, principles to follow in order to be good at anything. What makes you great is your ability to master these rules then apply them to YOUR specific circumstances.
Given this point of view, I offer this didactic text to help you learn the basics, build a foundation. The edifice you decide to erect on top of said foundation is your responsibility and yours alone.
I am an avid supporter of artistic self expression, but there's a line between being ground-breaking and being clown, and it's not that fine.

If your jeans are falling down your ass they don't fucking fit. Your 150lb frame cannot fit size 40 pants. A "short" sleeve T-shirt does not have sleeves that reach your wrists. (That's an oxymoron, in this case an oxyjerk)
If you're shaped like the Michelin man, maybe you shouldn't wear a skin tight camisole (for my ladies). The only rolls I wanna see are in the cafeteria.

It's really simple as long as you know what to do and to look for.
Go to the hardware store and invest $3 in a roll of measuring tape (the soft kind used by tailors).
Ask your mother's brother's grandmother to help you. She ain't got nothing else to do.

Measure your neck size (that's the first number listed on most labels of shirts i.e 16)
Measure your sleeve length (that's the second set of numbers listed i.e 34-35)
Measure your chest (you need this when buying a suit, the number is your chest size, the letter is your sleeve length i.e 40R, 42L, 46S)

For most guys, those 3 measurements are enough to make a world of difference in your style.

There are many sites that offer tutorials on how to take these measurements and you should go into your dry cleaners or find a tailor and ask for help.

Trust me, learn your true sizes and you'll look and feel like the master of your world.

Whether you’re tall, short, skinny, fat or even fatter you can be fly. Being stylish doesn't mean wearing runway labels or outrageously expensive clothes, its just means putting some thought into what covers your body, making it your own.

The number one thing that matters more than labels, colors, patterns or design is FIT! That is the single factor that can take you from being Average Joe to Dapper Dan, from sloppy dwarf to debonair dwarf. As easy and obvious as that sounds, 83.67% of people simply do not understand this idea. (Sidebar - The best way to make people believe your stats is by adding decimals)
I think it has to do with an illusion of comfort. Loose clothes are always more comfortable. BULLSHIT!
Just look at what your father or grandfather used to wear. Everything was fitted, no extra fabric floating around everywhere.
There are some things you cannot change about your shape and some you can. What matters is understanding what you have and working it. There seems to be a negative connotation to being self conscious but there shouldn't be. As some great philosopher once put it "You betta check yourself before you wreck yourself". How can I make myself better if I do not know myself, if I am not conscious of myself, if I do not accept myself? I think the problem is people aren't self conscious enough or just try too hard to make it look like they don't care.
Show that you do care, show that you know who you are and want everyone else to know it too.
I am a man; I care about my family and myself. If I am not in good physical, mental and emotional health I cannot provide for them.
I enjoy beauty, color, order and sometimes chaos. I listen to Vybz Kartel as well as Michael Bubblé; I love my rice & beans and can also appreciate some cheese with a bottle of wine.
I am me, complex but down to earth, board room and ball court ready. I do not fit in any of your categories...

I would like to welcome you all to my blog, hopefully it will evolve into something mentally and visually stimulating. I will share my thoughts, my vision. dreams and fantasies.
Some may find my delivery to be offensive (grow up!) but I will not simplify or restrain my opinions for anyone. Not because I want to prove I'm better, that I know more (I am as ignorant as they come), but because of freedom of expression, because of art and creation.
